Explore Sakurajima! Kayaking and Trekking with an Adventurer, Naomi Nomoto

Size

Naomi Nomoto, a world-traveled adventurer, guides this tour of the scenic Sakurajima, one of the world's most active volcanoes. Together, depart on the ocean by sea kayak and make your way to an area only accessible by sea where you will trek across a lava canyon and enjoy a unique one-of-a-kind nature experience.

Highlight

  • Paddle a sea kayak around Sakurajima,  with the spectacular views.
  • Trek across the canyons created by lava. You can feel the formation of the volcano over time.
  • Make lunch together using local unique ingredients, and enjoy a cup of exceptional coffee.

Naomi, President of Kagoshima Sea Kayaks, has been on many adventures around the world, including a sea kayaking voyage from Alaska to Canada, a Grand Canyon kayaking expedition, crossing Australia (Perth to Sydney) on bicycle, and hiking the John Muir Trail. Through his travels around the world, Naomi has realized the greatness of the world-class active volcano, Sakurajima, and Kinko Bay in Kagoshima, where he was born and raised. Now, Naomi shares that greatness with his experiences of the world.

On this one-day tour, paddle a sea kayak around Sakurajima and enjoy the spectacular views and the lava coast which can only be seen from the sea. You will experience the diverse and rich nature, including the natural beauty and changes in vegetation created from lava flows over time, the wild birds living there, Kinko Bay with its diverse fish and seaweed from shallow waters and the deep sea, and the lives of the people living off the bounties of the island. After landing on a shore that can only be reached from the ocean, you will make lunch together using local ingredients unique to Kagoshima and enjoy a cup of exceptional coffee. Trek across and explore the canyons created by lava. You can feel the formation of the volcano over time.

We can also arrange an intermediate-level course for participants to enjoy sea kayaking in a relaxed atmosphere.
