When the sun sets behind the majestic Sakurajima, the streets of Kagoshima transform into a vibrant maze of glowing lanterns and cozy alleyways. Join us for an exclusive 3-hour journey into the heart of Southern Japan’s drinking culture.

Your evening begins at the historic Meizan-bori or the bustling Tenmonkan district, where your friendly English-speaking "Tomodachi" (friend) guide awaits. We don't just show you the bars; we introduce you to the spirit of the city.

What to Expect:
The tour takes you through three distinct locations, each offering a unique atmosphere. You will learn everything about Shochu, Kagoshima's famous distilled spirit, and the traditional "Maewari" style of serving it. Between clinking glasses, you’ll feast on authentic local appetizers like Satsuma-age (fried fish cakes) or Miso Peanuts, specially selected to complement your drinks. Those plates are called "Otsumami" in Japanese.

Itinerary

Your adventure begins at a pre-arranged meeting point in the heart of the city, where you’ll meet your "Tomodachi" guide. After a warm introduction to the evening’s plans, we step away from the modern streets and into the soul of Kagoshima’s nostalgic nightlife.

We start by wandering into the lantern-lit alleys of Meizan-bori. This area feels like a time capsule, filled with tiny, character-rich Izakayas that have stood the test of time. In our first cozy spot, you’ll take your first sip of local Shochu paired with traditional appetizers (Otsumami). It’s the perfect setting to break the ice and settle into the relaxed "Satsuma" pace of life.

As we dive deeper into the labyrinth of Meizan-bori, we move to a second handpicked local favorite within the same historic district. Here, you’ll be introduced to the ultimate Kagoshima ritual: "Oyuwari" (Shochu with hot water). Your guide will show you the traditional local etiquette—a specific way of preparing the drink that awakens its rich, sweet potato aroma. Between bites of famous Satsuma-age (fried fish cakes), you’ll hear stories of the neighborhood’s history and the people who make it so special.

Our final stop takes us toward the vibrant energy of the Tenmonkan district for a "hidden gem" bar—a place you might never find on your own. This is where the conversation flows most freely and the atmosphere is at its most intimate. Whether you’re trying a rare vintage or a modern craft variety, this final toast marks your transition from a visitor to a local.

The guided experience concludes here, but the night is yours to continue. Your guide will ensure you’re set for the journey back to your hotel or point you toward the perfect spot for one last drink.
