Japanese calligraphy, known as Shodo, is more than just writing—it is a spiritual practice that has been cherished for centuries. In this 90-minute workshop, you will go beyond the basics and dive into the "way" of the brush.

Located just a 10-minute walk from Kagoshima-Chuo Station, our intimate studio offers a welcoming escape from the busy city streets. Your experience begins with the ritual of grinding ink, where the gentle aroma of the sumi ink helps you find your "Zen" focus. Under the expert guidance of a professional calligrapher, you will practice fundamental strokes and discover the balance and beauty of Kanji characters in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

The highlight of the session is creating your final piece. Whether it’s a word that resonates with your soul—like "Peace" (平和) or "Dream" (夢)—or your own name translated into Japanese characters, you will paint it onto a traditional folding fan or authentic Washi paper.

Your journey begins with the meditative ritual of grinding your own Sumi ink on a traditional stone, a quiet moment to sharpen your focus before picking up the brush. From there, you will dive into the art of Kanji under the personalized guidance of a professional calligrapher, practicing essential strokes and learning the philosophy behind each character in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Once you feel confident with your chosen word—be it "Peace," "Dream," or your own name—you will create your final masterpiece by brushing it onto a traditional folding fan (Sensu) or premium Washi paper. We will then carefully pack your one-of-a-kind artwork, ensuring you leave with a beautiful, handmade memory of Kagoshima to take home.
